When I was in Wieliczka for the first time several years ago, there was almost nothing here except the „Wieliczka” Salt Mine. Fortunately, that has changed significantly recently. The city cares more and more about its inhabitants and visitors. Infrastructure is developing, new entertainment and cultural facilities are being created (Mediateka, Cinema Kampus or sports centre Solne Miasto), and thus the number of residents of Wieliczka and tourists who want to see more than just a historic salt mine is growing. Fortunately, the number of restaurants and pubs that can accommodate them is also growing. Below I present the best places in Wieliczka, both for dinner and for a quick lunch.

Good restaurants in Wieliczka:

SZTOLNIA, 5 Zamkowa Street, Wieliczka

Sztolnia is a new point on the culinary map of Wieliczka. If they maintain a high level, I can say with a clear conscience that this is the best restaurant in Wieliczka. The card is well thought out; we can find here both sophisticated dishes, burgers and a children’s menu. The dishes are very tasty, beautifully presented, and the prices are quite affordable for such a high level. In the restaurant, great homemade beer is served. I recommend that you also leave some space for dessert!

The upper room is spacious and can accommodate many guests, it is perfect for all kinds of special events. The whole thing is kept in a „Krakow” atmosphere, but without the hustle and bustle of Krakow and high prices.

It’s worth booking a table in advance. Although there is a lot of space, there is a queue in front of the entrance on weekends.

SŁODKO CZY SŁONO, 12 Powstania Warszawskiego Street, Wieliczka

Słodko czy słono (Sweet or Salty) is a restaurant in Wieliczka to which I am very fond of. When the gastronomic scene in the city was just reviving, it was the first place in the center where you could eat well and sit longer than until dusk. Their great burgers are already loud in Krakow. Recently, the restaurant has undergone a renovation, making it much more spacious and elegant. The menu includes pizza and pasta. Tasty, but I stick to the burgers ;). In the „sweet” part of the restaurant, we can count on nice ice cream, waffles and cakes.

WARZELNIA SMAKÓW, ul. 13 Daniłowicza Street, Wieliczka

This is a very important point among the Wieliczka restaurants. It satisfies the needs of both tourists and residents. It is a kind of restaurant-institution. We have a large, beautifully decorated dining room, a bar, a large garden, and seasonal stalls (and even a drive-thru during a pandemic!). Here you can eat breakfast, dinner, drink coffee, and drop in for a drink in the evening. All kinds of special events take place here, such as St. Andrew’s Day and New Year’s Eve. In summer, you can catch additional attractions, such as „inflatables” for kids or broadcasts of important sports events. With all this, the food is tasty and the portions are generous.

„DZIEŃ DOBRY” DUMPLING PLACE, Rynek Górny 1, Wieliczka

Very popular place among the inhabitants of Wieliczka in the heart of Wieliczka, at the Upper Square. They serve great dumplings and other Polish dishes prepared on the spot. This tiny restaurant is stylized as the interior of a country kitchen. The decor is not delightful, but very homely and casual. Just in time for a quick dinner. The downside is the small amount of seating (only two tables inside and two outside).

The dumpling place is directly connected to the „Mniam-Mniam” ice cream shop, which serves (just in the summer unfotunately) traditional ice cream with cream. In my opinion, this is the best ice cream in Wieliczka, so it’s worth leaving some space for it.

CREPERIE, 2 Kopernika Street, Wieliczka

If you are a fan of crepes this is definitely the place for you. The card contains several dozen of crepes items – sweet and savory. The dishes in the Creperie are very tasty and filling. My top is: crepes with roasted apples and more „dinner” crepes with spicy chilli con carne sauce and crepes with chicken and grilled vegetables.

MAGNUM SAL, 5 E. Dembowskiego Street, Wieliczka

The Magnum Sal restaurant, gives hope that the city will host another great place for meetings of all kinds – family, friends, business, and parties. The restaurant has an interesting menu. On the one hand, the same classics of recent years, such as tagliatelle with shrimps and beef burger, and on the other, oriental dishes: curry and beef in black bean sauce (but, don’t worry, you will find a cutlet – traditional polish food!).

The food is very tasty, the interior is raw and tasteful (mostly brick and wood). The Magnum Sal restaurant also has two large gardens and a parking lot (you will get a token from the staff, which pays for the parking meter in the parking lot). A great advantage of this place is its ideal location – 50 meters from the train and bus stations and 150 meters from the main entrance to the „Wieliczka” Salt Mine.
